We will have a memorial / tribute to Scott at the September meet of the Big Creek and Southern Railroad, Sep 20-26th. Thinking on Friday at this time. Cindy will have Scott's new 1876 engine and some of his cars here to lead the train tribute.

07/24/2020 - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of fellow member Rick Henderson on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. We will share information about arrangements as they become available. Click this link for his obituary.

As Dan Davis said, "A sad loss for all of us and our railroad. His labor contributions to the railroad were without equal."

As Deborah Mynatt said, "From statistics to working on the right of way, Rick contributed to what the railroad is today during its early years."

06/28/2020 - Ed Henderson, Rick Henderson's father, was in hospice care at Longwood, near Orlando, Florida. Born Oct 8,1923, he passed away on June 25, 2020 at the age of 97.

Ed was a veteran of WW-2, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. Most of his military service was as a pilot of an EC-121 early warning aircraft. He was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and his wife predeceased him in 2004. He is survived by his four children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Ed was a life long model railroad fan. He joined CSME after several years of visiting since his first visit in December 2001 when it was 27 degrees outside. His only regret was that he did not join sooner. The photo of him was taken on his first run as a new engineer; it was on his 90th birthday. When the Depot construction was being planned, he donated the money to enlarge it from the planned 1,200 square feet to the current 1,500 square feet.

In a private ceremony, his ashes will be spread combined with his wife's in North Carolina this coming fall season. There will be no public service.

To all,

We have permission to run steam locomotives during the 2019 Fall Meet. However, you MUST have a working ash pan and a stack screen or spark arrestor to run. Please keep an eye out for any fires that may be set while running.

Chris Lairson
CSME Vice President

09/20/2019 - Sequatchie County has been placed under a "burn ban" effective 09/20/2019. No date has been placed for when this ban will be lifted. ALL COAL AND OIL FIRED ENGINES are not permitted to run while the "burn ban" is in effect. Propane fired engines can still run. This also means no burning in the pits at Cumberland, Saddleback, and Eagle Point. Signs will be posted at the depot and the roundhouse. This can pose an issue going into our busy Fall Meet. Please check back to see if this "burn ban" has been lifted.
01/09/2019 - It is with much regret and sadness to let you know that David Porter passed away a little after 9am on January 8, 2019. David was one of the founding members of CSME. Information regarding funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.

01/10/2019 - Visitation will take place at Chattanooga Valley View Chapel, 7414 Old Lee Hwy in Chattanooga, TN on Sunday 4-7 pm and Monday 12-1 pm followed by a service at the chapel with burial at the National Cemetary at 2:30 PM.
